Who Is Keshav Prakash?
Keshav Prakash has been a professional ad-filmmaker. He was, however, always passionate about fine spirits and meant to share his appreciation for them with everyone. One of his business trips was a 45-day, 12-country tour visiting independent whiskey bottlers and boutique spirit makers in places as far apart as the Scottish Highlands and the Caribbean islands, all perfect destinations for fine spirits. This led him to set up The Oak League, an underground whisky appreciation club in 2010. Three years later, he launched The Vault, a boutique that curates a unique selection of fine spirits from around the world. Both of these are based in Mumbai. Whiskey, to you and me, is a smooth, rich drink for evenings of being lovesick, in existential crisis or any other time that you’re ready to feel somewhat poetic. To him, it’s about the stories of its land, its culture and the artisans who had slipped in a little bit of themselves into the spirits they had crafted.
A Little More About The Vault
The Vault is not an average booze-on-call hotline. It’s a portal for the appreciation and education of all fine spirits. If you’re ready to become a connoisseur, then you may open the Vault. A collection of carefully curated priceless bottles from all over the world, tasting sessions and masterclasses await you here. It’s a place that takes vice and turns it very masterfully into art.
What’s Going To Happen At The Masterclass?
Well, to begin with, you’re going to learn a bit about this drink that had a tax and a rebellion named after it in America. That’s correct. You’re going to know to appreciate it and drink it like a pro. Look at the colour of the drink in your glass to tell whether it’s a golden yellow or a dark amber, take a gentle whiff and try to discern scents, hold the sip in your mouth and then try to determine the ‘palate’ and the ‘finish’ of each whiskey. You will learn some of these things and get to know about Scottish tales of artisan whiskeys, the contemporary twists by the new generation and more. Smelling and tasting whiskey is a very personal experience, so while you’re taken through the 4 whiskies with pairings of cheese & chocolate, you could draw a sensory map of your own and pick your favourites.
The next time you’re watching your friends knock back a Scotch or a Bourbon, you will be enjoying the whiskey far too much to also enjoy the awe on their faces looking at you.
