I’ve always thought of the Mystery Machine as the very first food truck. While it may not have qualified for a quintessential one, it had the van and the yummy food (thanks to Shaggy and Scooby being constantly hungry!) – What more could you ask for? If Namma Bengaluru’s food trucks are anything to go by, a lot! The food truck trend has become popular all over the world. In India, Bangalore can be credited with the first food trucks, and the city sure embodies the eat-on-the-run philosophy of high-flying executives. The Garden City is also home to the very first food truck in Asia that is owned and operated by an all-women crew – 7th Sin.
The only thing better than good food is good food on wheels, ready to serve you where you are! Here are some other food trucks you should honk for in Bangalore, if you haven’t already.
5. The S.W.A.T. Truck
They may not have a connection to the armed forces or the Swat Kats, but this food truck sure has a strong connection with delicious New York street food! The acronym stands for ‘Served with a Twist’ and that is what this food truck does best—gorge on Deep-Fried Oreos to perfectly seasoned Mac n Cheese or Beef Burgers here.

4. Great Indian Bhukkad
If you are a foodie in India, you’ve been called a ‘bhukkad’ at least once (or all the time). Here’s a chance to re-appropriate that word and make it your own. Great Indian Bhukkad is all about keeping the inner foodie happy and satiated. They do this with a daily menu consisting of most of your favourite comfort foods that you crave all the time. From regulars like sandwiches, momos, and fried rice, to specials like Sweet Corn Kathi Roll, this food truck gives you an opportunity to gorge on healthy, home-styled meals, albeit on wheels.

3. As On Fire
Ahem! Well, in spite of that leading name, this one does not serve food that will set any of your orifices on fire. They do, however, serve delicious grilled dishes and barbequed meals. I recommend their wood-fired (there’s that word again!) Pizza that is fresh, cheesy, and oh-so-delicious – you could easily polish off the 10-inch version with little help from anyone else.

This one satiated my tummy and tickled my funny bone! The truck boasts Bollywood titles with a food-lover’s twist – Lassi toh Phasee, Dilwale Parathe le Jayenge, and Haseena Chaat Jayegi – it is even run by a Kapoor family! I recommend this food truck to add a quirk quotient to any date night. Cheesy romantic Bollywood dialogues, and Pani Puri and Channa Kulcha from the truck will make for a filmy night.

1. Spitfire BBQ Truck
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the very first food truck in Bangalore – Spitfire BBQ Truck! The brainchild of Siddhanth Sawkar who has a master’s degree from the Italian Calabria Culinary Institute, and Gauthami Shankar who is a Christ University graduate in baking and confectionery studies, the Spitfire BBQ Truck started out as a stop gap – a stepping stone to realising the dream of setting up a restaurant. The immense success of this food truck took even the owners by surprise. Stop by for their best-selling Double Bacon Double Chicken Steak Burger made in authentic New York street food-style.
