Of Conversations and Cocktails
Owing to the temporary ban on serving alcohol in bars on state highways, I lost access to some of my favourite hang-out spots in Bangalore. Then I chanced upon Bak Bak Bar and it was everything that I’d expect from my quintessential bar. First thing’s first, the idea behind Bak Bak Bar is to stir conversations. The in-house staff is amicably chatty and make you feel at home. To add to this, they have scrumptious food and smashing but oh-so-yummy cocktails to choose from.
Cocktails – the true showstopper of the menu at Bak Bak Bar. All the drinks that I tried were lip-smacking and also stronger than I expected. But no complaints there. Highly recommend their Long Island Iced Tea, Gabbar Singh, Leatherface and Why So Serious. All their signature cocktails are reminiscent of favourite villains. Quite a muse, I say!
The Chomping Chapter
I will admit that going to Bak Bak Bar was like flipping through an intriguing book that gives you a bit of the action, a bit of the drama and lot of the excitement. Only here, when it came to the chapter where we started eating our food, we were at a loss for words. All the conversations came to and end, all the chit-chatting took a halt and only hogging ensued. The menu is a melting pot of culinary cultures from across the world.
If you have the stomach for spice and I don’t mean like green-chilly spice but real, bum-on-fire kind of spice, you must try their mouthwatering Bhut Jolokia chicken wings. You can expect to have your taste buds go numb and maybe even shiver with the intensity of the Ghost Pepper. Caution: Do not take these wings lightly!
For the mains, I went with the Beef and Black Bean Stir Fry. It was a nice melange of exotic veggies with the chunkiness of Beef served with the XO sauce fried rice, which in comparison to the wings were quite soothing for the palate.
The ambiance is mostly industrial, with a wall of fame that depicts caricatures of the world’s finest music artists. They also have a Foosball table right behind the wall of fame, which really does enhance the whole ‘adda’ vibe, making it a place you can spend hours, just talking and lounging with your friends. The plants outside do emit a breath of fresh air, balancing the otherwise factory-like touch to this exquisite bar.
However, the drinks do really take the cake as they are worth every penny spent. The food really did outrun my expectations too and I was quite impressed with the sheer selection of dishes from every corner of the world.
