Cinnamon, a 100 year-old home houses chic designer clothing and lifestyle labels worthy of a purchase or a quick peek but stand at the door of the stores leading to an open courtyard and the smell of coffee, and a menu inspired by Abhijit Saha, lure you into a chair at Cafe Cassia & Deli.
The peacefulness and privacy of the colonial bungalow, attracts a numbers of regular customers from frenzied shoppers to daydreamers, who like us wish to avoid single file lines at the regular restaurants. The presence of an impeccable wait staff quickly breaks the spell as they wait on the tables in a pleasant, practiced manner, and we with patience continue to pursue the menu.
At an odd hour
Skimming through the menu we have high expectations of the food even though we find a typical smattering of a cafe kitchen – salads, wraps and beverages that include teas, coffee, and cold drinks.
As luck would have it, not everything is available, the kitchen has run out of lettuce and the original order of a glass noodles salad and pita wraps, has to wait. Instead, we get a plate of Aglio Olio, but the real hero was, the Chicken Tikka Burger, deliciously subtle with notes of spices broken by a good bun bread. The dessert section also offers a small variety of pies, tarts and are available on display.
A menu that calls for healthy meals at odd times of the day, Cafe Cassia serves us laid back charm with uncompromising service, this hidden oasis of calm inspires the pleasure of ordinary things, while you sit with a coffee and pastry at 4 pm, without being judged.
What we loved?
We got samples of in-house cheese like feta and parmesan and bought a few organic treats like Earth Loaf chocolate bars and Blue Tokia coffee powder.
