A little birdie told me of a new sprout in town, serving up South American (not Tex-Mex) food and cocktails at rock bottom prices – with a Mexican chef to top things off. After a rare but welcome series of green lights enroute, we landed at Casa Piccosa, a softly-lit casual dining bar in the pleasant JP Nagar 24th Main.
Starters to The End
From the range of starters we settled for Chicken strips and Beet Salad. They hooked up perfectly with Chef Ernesto Villarreal’s signature Chipotle Salsa. As he was passing by, I complimented his sauce and convinced him to stay and chat. In 15 minutes he demystified Mexican food for me. Apparently Tacos aren’t supposed to be crisp on the outside and Salsa isn’t just a chunky sauce full of tomatoes, it is the Spanish word for sauce. He suggested we try the Crispy Calamary and Shrimp Tortilla wraps (with generous amounts of Chipotle). These seemed destined to be eaten along with some beer and shots of tequila (but I had to drive).
In spite of all efforts to stick to my iced tea, I had to try the Michelada, a beer based cocktail with Casa Picossa’s secret spices added to keep it typically South American. The first few sips itself endeared me to the tastes of our distant colonial cousins. I was finally convinced, that much like us, South Americans love their spice. The fully stocked bar started luring me in when my friend snapped me back to my senses and dragged me out of a sing-along with the bunch next to us.
