“Hippies, Gypsies, and Vagabonds find refuge here!” is a rare tagline for a joint in the Tech City.
A humongous wall painting of an unknown hippie surrounded by psychedelic motifs dawns the main wall at Hungry Hippie. It snapshots a slice of the 60’s happy high vibe made better with twinkle lights that make it feel like Christmas all year long. Complete with foosball, board games, and a wide range of hookah fits and flavours – the place is perfect for long and undisturbed chilling.
Vapour is Better than Stupor
Keeping with the ‘Shanti’ scene, Hungry Hippie is a sanctuary for teetotallers in the otherwise boozy Koramangala scene. Blended with an after-class hangout layout, Hungry Hippie can be a breath of fresh air for those starting to realise the monotony of Bangalore’s stepping out scene (in which one invariably returns with a stupor).
Life is Using the Whole Box of Crayons
If you can admit that you’re a sucker for A variety of flavour – you can dabble with double apple and partner up for some paan – brace for the brain freezer and classy up with some cigar. Pair any of the 25 standard flavours and even choose a twin pipe if you hang with hoarders. If that doesn’t tingle your trip, then trust in the wisdom of the maestros at Hungry Hippie with their signature travel flavours from hippie towns like Manali, Woodstock, and Vattakanal, to Pushkar and more.
A Neatly Mixed and Rolled Menu
Hungry Hippie brings the favourites when it comes to dishes and cuisines from trip towns around India and the world. No points for guessing they have an All Day Breakfast menu and a range of wraps, pizzas (including butter chicken) and pastas. Their mains are quite elaborate for a cafe so we tried a little trick we picked up. Any self-respecting hippie trippy kitchen can be judged by the quality of its Hummus and the Mezzeh Platter here made the cut.
Peace, Love, and The Sweet Tooth
Hungry Hippie’s Shakes are kept creamy and served short in mason jars. The bohemian waiters have a particular talent for suggesting the right shakes to go along with the hookah of your choice (or theirs). They even offer an extra mug for the classic ‘by-two’ but don’t expect a straw as they take their anti-plastic stand very seriously. The desserts show serious commitment to the sweet toothed munchies by combining quintessential elements like Ferrero, Oreo and Peanut Butter and other classics like Kit Kat and Snickers.
Postscript Quirk Tip
All patrons must be 18+ years of age to smoke hookah. Smoking is Injurious to health (and wealth – with the hike in taxes and all). Prices here are inclusive of all taxes. And for holy stones’ sake don’t ask for, or light up, things here that you shouldn’t.
