If you’re a bunch of girls (or guys getting hijacked by your female friends) in and around Domlur or MG Road and you’re up for the kind of night that ends up as a crazy story at someone’s wedding speech, head to Loveshack. A joint that demands to be hit frequently so long as you don’t need to take work from home the next day, Loveshack is best visited on Wednesdays. Ladies’ Nights means you get free drinks and it’s crowded enough for you conveniently forget to behave after a couple. The first time we visit, we walk out of the rain into the middle of Karaoke and sweet-talk the DJ into moving us up the song queue because nobody does Cheap Thrills like we do. The conversations are loud, the music louder and the wine flowing. We’re already in love.
Crafted as a chic beach shack reminiscent of a vintage Mediterranean villas, Loveshack has a fun, party vibe that is hard to forget. The gazebo is divided into large group seaters, going all the way to an open mezzanine. It’s jam packed so we hang back at the bar, waiting for our champagne pitcher (yes, they exist) and admiring the dancing shadows created by the overhanging lamps. Too hungry for bar nibbles but not hungry enough for a full-blown dinner, we end up ordering both. The Shack Chilli Beef is beef tenderloin with just the right amount of heat and soy to set our throats on fire. We brave some spicy Thai Red Curry Even while the vegetarians ooh aah about the delicious crumb-fried Jalapeno Croquettes. Hummus is a beloved in any scenario so the Mezza Platter (Pita Breads with Hummus, Labneh and Mouttabal) is an instant winner.
The service is relaxed and we are continuously replenished with drinks so it doesn’t feel like we’re stuffing ourselves. I enjoy choosing from their collection of seven interesting LITs and opt for the Tokyo while the girls bicker between sharing a Jamaican and a Martini Bianco. I’m happy to hand over a 100 bucks to the bartender after a few sips; he bets he makes the meanest LIT in town and I have to admit, I’ve never had meaner. We work off some calories dancing – the DJ is dropping some sick desi beats. Nothing makes a girl get off her bar stool faster than a Daler Mehendi dubstep. Pretty lamps and fairy lights envelope us in a warm cocoon, shielding us from the wind and the rain as we sway in unison, drinks in hand. We feel okay, oblivious to the rest of the world as we cavort around in the light, a small bubble of happiness on a dark, stormy night.
