The Heat is probably the most sophisticated ambience for Mexican cuisine in the city. They offer you five distinct eating environments— the balconies across two floors, the indoor air-conditioned classic urban restaurant, an indoor library / café, the bar with high stools, and the brand new terrace barbeque space with a screen that is as large as a small truck.
To be perfectly honest, the first few visits basically followed an order-and-pray model because my friends and I had no idea what an enchilada or quesadilla is. Some of us were confusing tacos and burritos. And you can’t really blame us, considering most of the world still doesn’t know the difference between naan, kulcha, chappati and paratha—the food consumed by 1/6th of the world. So, unless you’re sufficiently well-exposed to Mexican or American culture, and/or are a Google junkie, identifying dishes may present a challenge. But given that the crowd here is usually a happy mix of expats foreign students and well-travelled Indians, perhaps it is just my cuisine-challenged friends and I who need to raise our culinary game.
The quesadillas, tacos, burritos and enchiladas are delicious. Unfortunately, the meat menu at present stops at chicken and lamb. But on the flipside, they have a prawn version of everything. A group of us shamelessly keep going back for chicken wing-and-cold coffee binges. No matter what you order, the whole meal still feels light. They have been serving wine all along but more recently, they expanded their bar menu to include an exhaustive array of all kinds of spirits. The bartender seems to be a whiz at whipping up a formidable range of margaritas to go with the Mexican cuisine. For dessert, it’s churros w. chocolate all the way, baby. Make sure you leave room for seconds.
