Serving Pork, Beef and Duck under the same roof is no ordinary task for a restaurant. Dealing with cultural taboos is one thing, but take half a step wrong while preparing these meats and meat lovers will start a riot. OvenTreats (erstwhile Mangrove) doesn’t put a foot wrong with these meats. They create memorable Steaks, Pastas, Burgers, and Pizzas as well as chicken, lamb, and a good variety of vegetarian dishes too.
Kammanahattan (hipster for Kammanahalli) was sad to see the very popular Mangrove restaurant shut down. Rumours say they were taken over, but Quirk is setting the record straight – Mangrove wasn’t taken over, its Chef’s / owners added a patisserie, revamped the ambience and the menu, and merged their both brands into one as OvenTreats – Patisserie.Bistro.
A Conversation With Fine Food
There is space for conversation with loved ones and an atmosphere for all ages makes the place charming. However, I had a deep discussion with the sublime Sticky Pork Rib about the daylong cooking process it goes through (before being plated up with corn on the cob). Meat falling-off-the-bone-rib is the only way I can describe it to you. I kept wishing each bite didn’t melt so quickly in my mouth so I could enjoy it a little longer.
Oven Treat is a rare place that serves duck in this price range (and isn’t attached to a star hotel).
If you haven’t tried duck before, get ready for a blissful mouthful. The Smoked Duck Steak with Orange-Pomegranate reduction serves two generous fillets made in tender heaven. The accompanying salad bowl can be eaten to the last leaf, thanks to the palate refreshing dressing. This dish is best shared by two but, be careful while stealing some back from the other plate.
Hard Liquor: Not missed at all
We all know how much noise a couple of stiff drinks make. Keeping with the peaceful feel of the place the alcohol is served in the form cleverly blended Wine and Beer cocktails. However, the Southern Siren, a white wine and curry leaves blend left me tingling with newfound respect for cocktails.
Pastries and Desserts on Rotation
The patisserie serves different pastries and desserts everyday of the week. The task of choosing was easier but it still took me a while to decide which of the beauties I’d pick from the display. Going with the Le Tropical I found a mango and pineapple compote hiding within a vanilla mousse that hit the spot and got a thumbs up.
Quirk Tip – The prep time for food can be a little longer than you expect, so get a cocktail while you wait.
