Penne For My Thoughts
Before I get down to business, I must tell you that even though Pasta Street contends as an authentic Italian player, it undeniably meets the Indian tastebuds halfway. Regardless, the food was fresh and flavorful – just the way I like it.
No, I’m not talking about lentils here. Contrary to what you may believe, “Dal Menu” simply translates to “from the menu” in Italiano. When it comes to choosing “from the menu”, I tend to get a little lost with the never-ending menus that go on longer than the archetypal one-page kinds; spoilt for choice, some would say. For this reason, the Pasta Street menu had my brain hacked for a while before the staff politely came around, offering to help us order.
His immediate recommendation to us turned out to be a life-changing omelette so to speak. “Spaghetti Omelette” – this dish here deserves a special round of applause. Good is just not good enough to describe how much I savoured it. One word: Delizioso! This is also a signature dish on the Pasta Street menu. A fluffy omelette rolled with spaghetti and some mozzarella, served with a side of a tomato concasse with oh-so much depth. Hands down, it’s a must try!
Next up we tried the Hot Chilli & Cheese Garlic Bread. It’s a standard Cheese Garlic Bread with the zest of hot chillies and jalapenos. For the mains, we ordered a Pasta and Ravioli. The Fusilli Pollo Venezia is a simple white sauce-based pasta with garlic, green beans and a hint of rosemary – a no-fuss, filling meal.
I pride myself for selecting my mains and not going with the staff suggestion. Homemade Ravioli stuffed with earthy basil, crunchy broccoli and rich sun dried tomatoes in a mixed creamy red sauce. This dish had varied textures and was a true treat to my tastebuds. A double thumbs up!
We washed all this down with the ultimate, divine mocktail – Spicy Guava Juice made with a dash of tabasco and paprika. Sweet and spicy is indeed a match made in heaven.
Moment of Truth
After having visited both the outlets, the one in Indiranagar and now the one on Cunningham Road, the latter truly adheres to the “street” status. While the Indiranagar outlet doesn’t have much of the makings of a street with its understated fine-dining decor, the Cunningham Road branch has a modest, streetside cafe-like vibe. With vibrant paintings of a typical Italian town leading onto narrow lanes or even the Colosseum, this Pasta Street is a testimony to the European culture and bistro spirit.
