Build as many traffic solutions in Bangalore as you like, but they’ll have a low chance of working. The roadways here look like cattle paths that have been slightly widened and surfaced (in the cheapest way) and are crisscrossing each other pointlessly, creating a uniquely annoying driving experience. Nothing has stood the test of time in Bangalore better than motor scooters. Manoeuvrable and quick, (albeit with some safety and hair styling issues) they can get you anywhere in the city faster than the fastest car here.
Beats traffic without grinding your gears
If you’re on a moto-scooter, you won’t be stuck changing gears every time you want to move. Your can swerve through narrow gaps and keep moving, getting jealous stares from stationary four-wheel drivers along the way. You could mount a footpath or enter a one-way without being noticed and save the 3 km deviation you would otherwise have to take (at your own risk, of course).
No tension parking
You know what I’m talking about! Be it for a couple of hours or a quick pit stop – car parking can leave you scared and confused. A moto-scooter can be parked in the tightest of spots, a short walk from wherever you wish to go in Bangalore. Even if it is towed away by the cops, the fine is relatively cheap.
Allows r-erouting without any trouble
There are no thumb rules when it comes to judging traffic congestion in Bangalore. We often have to re-route to save time (there is always a detour that can be longer but faster). Again four wheelers require Titanic turns to be able to change direction but with a moto-scooter it is quite effortless, even if you have missed a turn, you can track back or take a narrow lane to get to a faster route.
They are Lighter on the pocket
It goes without saying that a moto-scooter satisfies the Indian appetite for mileage. Like the popular tag line: you can fill it, shut it, and forget refuelling for a while. Overall maintenance of your moto-scooter is also cheaper (even if you are scammed by the famously devious mechanics in Bangalore). Also don’t forget those traffic violations and other unavoidable payments needed to stay on the move.
I can sense you’re not yet sold on Moto-Scooters. What if they can make you look like the coolest thing on the road.
Crazy Paint jobs
Re-painting your car can cost a bomb, and you will still get just one plain look. But if you’re bored with your moto-scooter’s look, a few thousand rupees will get you sorted. There are scores of shops in Shivajinagar and J.C Road which will be happy to give your scooter a snazzy look. They will fabricate stickers in an infinite range of designs that can be customised just for your scooter.
Save Mother Earth
There is debate if motorcycles are friendlier with the environment than cars, and the debate continues. But moto-scooters have been proved to have lower emissions thanks to their smaller engines. If you ride moto-scooters, you are burning 3 times lesser fuel than a car over the same distance. You use lesser water to clean it (only if you’re careful) and fewer materials are used to build your moto-scooter. Also, it doesn’t have air conditioners that give out some mean gases.
The only way you can achieve at least a couple of these deeds is by carpooling. You should try it. And when you are stuck in a jam, in a car full of dull conversation; you’ll watch a moto-scooter zip by and crave for the freedom and flexibility that Moto-Scooters offer.
