If I had to put my finger on a distinct trait that made Toast & Tonic etch its space into my existence, I’d have a hard time boiling down to just one. Even then, food being the essence of indulging in a dining session, takes the cake here. The prompt and courteous staff contributed with recommendations that morphed into a memorable, scrumptious meal; a gastronomic experience to remember.
There’s quite a few reasons why Toast & Tonic is exceptional. The first being, it shares a striking semblance to the contemporary American vibe which is unusual for the silicon capital of India. On the other hand, their credo has a sustainable limb that extends in the ambiance. There is an organic energy that resonates in the aesthetic elements and interiors of this resto pub.
The food and beverages also have a unprocessed and natural flavour. True to their name, you can expect to get legit tonic. None of that bottled stuff. Select from a myriad of homemade tonics on their bar display or get any one of their gourmet cocktails, you’re certainly in safe hands. We went with The Herbalist and Vanillin. The fusion of the flavours in these drinks are unique yet exotic.
The food here is every connoisseur’s dream come true. We ordered the Soft Eggs and Andouille Sausages on Sourdough toast with a green mustard spread. Usually, I’m skeptical about any dish with eggs but this lip-smacker harmonized the flavours and textures on point. For mains, we went with the Lobster Risotto which is probably the best risotto I’ve ever had the privilege of savouring. We also ordered the 7-hour Roasted Pork Shoulder. All the time and effort that has gone into conceptualizing this dish can be tasted within a bite.
As I struggle, yet again, to decide on a dessert (because let’s face it, everything sounds better than the other.), my eyes wander to the bottom of the page and stumble upon a footnote. Apparently, all the cocoa beans in their desserts are sourced from estates in Anamalai Hills. This makes my choice easier – Brownie it is. This is unlike any other brownie I’ve eaten- rich, fudgy, with a slight crunch, served warm with walnut ice cream. It’s undoubtedly a blissful way to end your meal.
Toast & Tonic thrives in an autonomous stratosphere, dominating the overpriced and overrated throng of restaurants that exist in Bangalore.
