TL;DR
It turns out that Australia’s fairy bread is the mother of all the Rainbow food that the world seems to be going crazy about now.
Where You From, You Sexy Thing?
Rainbow bagels, rainbow grilled cheese, rainbow cookies, the world can’t seem to get enough of the seven colours ever since the trend has come into being. Well, it was recently found out that all the rainbow food originated from something that Australia has been eating since forever now – the fairy bread.
It’s actually as simple as a slice of bread slathered with butter and sprinkled with rainbow sprinkles. Why is it called Fairy Bread? People thought it would be fun to call it that after they heard it for the first time in a Robert Louis Stevenson poem that states ‘Come up here, O dusty feet!/Here is fairy bread to eat./Here in my retiring room, Children, you may dine.’
Let’s Talk More About Rainbow Food Now
You can’t talk this much about rainbow food and not end up craving for it. These dishes in particular are what you should have when you’re craving for those colours of the rainbow to show up on your plate.
Rainbow Sliders @ Hammered, Bangalore
It’s the most adorable and insta-worthy tray of food that I have come across in a long time. These tiny burgers are a mouthful each and before you realize it, you’ve polished off the petite little things one by one. While it’s surprising that this dainty touch on something as manly as burgers was welcomed so warmly, could you blame people for liking something that’s too pretty to eat and too tasty to not?
Rainbow Maki @ High Ultra Lounge, Bangalore
This roll is made of crabstick with layers of avocado, tuna and Norwegian salmon. It’s creamy, delicate in flavour and yet meaty in texture. I don’t know about you but a rainbow never tasted so good to me. It’s what I end up craving for every time I see a rainbow now.
