I had a Tinder match with a nice girl, let’s call her Vinita, during a business trip to Delhi sometime in early 2014. We did some cursory chatting for a while, even after I returned to Bangalore. A couple of months later I found myself back in Delhi, and of course connected with her and other Delhi matches soon after landing.
Come Saturday, my friends and I were at a house party, and at about 11 pm that night I got a message from Vinita, asking me where I was. We exchanged flirty messages every 20 minutes or so till finally at 3.00 AM, when everything was shutting down on both sides, we decided to meet. I asked my female friends what they thought about this. They said “Hey! She started a conversation on Saturday night at 11.00 PM. What could she want? Just a coffee?” They mocked me and then high-fived me. The boys gave me manly fist bumps. At 3.00 AM on Saturday night, there was pretty much just one thing that I wanted as well.
Covering the bases
So, I drove to pick her up in a borrowed car. She was waiting at a 5-star hotel. She came out to the car with her girlfriend, who was clearly there to make sure that she could identify me in a police line-up or at least submit a license plate number in the FIR. We were in Delhi after all. Good girlfriend!
As we pulled out of the hotel I said, “Hey… so I’m going to drive towards my place. If you decide that you want to go elsewhere, just tell me at any point and we can go there.” She didn’t reply.
On the drive to my place, there was plenty of random banter. We went up to the terrace. A 92% full moon night. Some necking. Wound up downstairs on the bed. Hands everywhere. After some twenty minutes of some serious necking my hand finally drifted down between her legs—in a very gentlemanly fashion, of course. A few seconds later she pushed my hand out of the way, got herself off furiously through her legging-type pants and fell asleep after a minute.
It took me a minute or so to understand what had just happened. I thought she was joking. She wasn’t. She was asleep. So I lay back, face up. At that moment I thought about all the times I had left girlfriends high and dry and fallen asleep. I apologized to each one of them in my mind. I even considered messaging each of them to say it in person. It was about 5.00 AM on Sunday morning, so I refrained and just cried myself to sleep, instead.
