There you have it, another season of Game of Thrones has ended, leaving us with nothing but frothing mouths and fanatic conspiracy theories. Are we going to see Sansa’s darkest timeline yet? Will Jon and Dany team up to fight the frosty zombie kings? Can we get another peek at that majestic library? You don’t have to wait another ten months to beat the Monday blues, we suggest you fill the Iron Throne shaped hole in your heart with some of the fantastic craft beers that the city has to offer. And because we’re big believers in the irregularity of life, we suggest you grab a mug of the beer that reminds you of your favourite characters.
1. Doppleganger – Cersei Lannister
Like Cersei, the Doppleganger is dark and head(e)y but undoubtedly luscious and enticing. Sure, the malty bitterness is not for everybody but chug a few mugs of this and you’ll be inclined to starting a few wildfires yourself. Created by the Gateway Brewery, this wheat malt is available at a slew of bars and restaurants including Woodside Inn and Bonobo.
2. Floating Head – Jon Snow
This golden Hefeweizen, which boasts a combination of banana tones and spicy clove, is sure to remind you of everybody’s favourite bastard. The brew has a light tanginess and mellow aroma, almost as if it was created in a Tower of Joy too. It’s simple and easily likeable, a reliable ally when you’re having a bad day. A few mugs of the Floating Head are likely to cloud your judgement and make you do things like, oh I dunno, lead your army to certain death on the battlefield all because you got a case of the feels?
3. Coffee Porter – Tyrion Lannister
Although the Coffee Porter is dark and bitter, you can’t help but love it. This full-bodied brew is unconventional in nature – the coffee notes are so intense you have to remind yourself you’re drinking a beer. One sip of this delicious concoction and you’ll forget all about your daddy issues. Exercise your strategy skills while you lounge in Doolally by pairing this beer with the board-game ‘Settlers of Catan’.
4. Diablo Irish Red Ale – Sansa Stark
The White Owl
This red is ripe with caramel undertones and is smooth to the T, much like our once delicate, now vengeance-machine, older Stark sister. Don’t let the timidity of the beer fool you, it’ll slyly get you raging drunk before you can say “enough with the bad marriages”. It’s quite a looker too, glimmering from within The White Owl’s dainty novelty mugs.
5. Rauchebier – Daenerys Targaryen
This spectacular beer isn’t easy to get at the Doolally Taproom but it’s a keeper. With an intense, fiery aroma and the delicious taste of smoked bacon, it instantly reminds you of the one true Khaleesi. It doesn’t matter if winter has come as long as you got this roasty brew to keep you warm.
6. Four Grain Saison – Arya Stark
The Independence Brewery
A crowd-favourite, the fierce Four Grain Saison packs a punch with the combination of barley, wheat, oats and rye. Earthy and delicious, this complex brew comes with infinite potential to satiate your taste buds and the cloudy appearance keeps you guessing. A hero among beers, if there ever was one, the beer is frothy vengeance served in a mug. Though the Independence Brewery is Pune-based, you can grab a pint of the beer at Woodside Inn.
7. Fallen Angel Chocolate Stout – Lyanna Mormont
The Barking Deer Brewpub
If you assume this chocolate brew is child’s play, you’re in for a surprise. Like lil Lyanna of Bear Island, this brew is a badass to the bone and a show-stealer with its rich cocoa accents. Dig into this frothy delight at the tavern-esque Barking Deer and you’ll be throwing shade and making rousing speeches in no time.
