Tucked away among the industrial haze of Lower Parel, one can find some true culinary gems. With the influx of shiny new start-ups and media companies, the cosy Udupi restaurants in the areas are scooting aside to make space for some interesting gourmet experiences. Case in point is the spate of relatively new restaurants that have popped up opposite Palladium mall, giving sweet relief from the type of hunger created by hours of shopping.
Some of these restaurants are exclusively vegetarian, offering a wide variety of really great food. Even if you’re a meat purist, check these restaurants. They are truly an experience, offering enough reason to stop making those awful vegetarian jokes. Yes, there is much more than paneer.
For some delicious experimental food, dig into the dishes on offer at SpiceKlub. The restaurant is renowned for its innovation, turning traditional Indian dishes on their heads and experimenting with form. The delightful plating of each dish is just the cherry on top.
Next up, there is the wooden expanse of The Rolling Pin café with the smell of vanilla in the air. The Rolling Pin offers up some excellent desserts but their mains are quite an achievement in themselves. The most exciting part is the layout; an assortment of wooden picnic tables lined up to surround the open kitchen where you can actually watch your food being cooked!
Another great option is the Mexican/Italian cuisine at the warm Quattro Ristorante. Blending into its surroundings and easily missable if it wasn’t for that Indigo blue door, Quattro is the perfect place to unwind. It tends to get quite packed though, so it’s best to make reservations in advance.
Thankfully, for anybody who wants to stuff in as many experiences as possible, there’s a Foodie Trail being hosted which covers all three of these restaurants, given their proximity and vegetarian theme. To be held on 27th July, this trail is the perfect mid-week gorge session that you need.
You start at SpiceKlub, sampling their appetizers such as the Aloo Bharwan and Papdi Chaat. With your stomach prepped for delicious food, you will then be led into The Rolling Pin where you can dig into the sumptuous Mexican Savoury Crepes or the Cottage Cheese Shashlik Sizzler. Since it’s just plain wrong to end a meal without dessert, you can satiate your sweet tooth next door at Quattro with their Pistachio and Chocolate Ganache Bar and Chocolate Saturn.
With a happy tummy and three restaurants ticked off your bucket list, there’s no reason to miss this Foodie Trail.
