Why Bombay Food Truck?
It rolled into the city last September, one of the earliest food trucks in Mumbai, and this September, it won the award for the Best Food Truck of The Year at the Indian Restaurant Awards given away in New Delhi. Founder, Ashish Sajnani, from OPA Hospitality, known for places like Please Don’t Tell, is planning to have the city see some more of its favourite fire-engine red Bombay Food Truck. The current one, parked in BKC, is so good that it has people coming to it from all over the city and wanting one of it in their area too. With a menu starring these gastronomical stars, who wouldn’t?
Keema Pav #BFT Style
In a recent study, it was found out that one of the longest running food trends of all time has been bowl food; food in a bowl (it’s really as simple as that). Bombay Food Truck has taken this very seriously. So, while the Keema pav that you get in the brown saucer plates of an Irani café is already very tempting, the #BFT spin on it makes it downright irresistible. A Multigrain Kadak Pav bowl contains piping hot mutton keema with pickled beets & greens, a curd and mint sauce, homemade salsa and an egg on top, cooked just runny enough to be beaten into it. That’s a Mumbai carnival in your mouth!
Pav Bhaji Roll
The unique thing about this food truck is that it takes local favourites, gives them an NYC street eats style makeover and makes them handy and fun to eat. The Pav Bhaji that began as a meal for the mill workers of Mumbai, found its way to the palates of die-hard fans at Juhu beach, Girgaum chowpatty, Sardar Pav Bhaji centre and the likes, over the years. This dish of humble origins and a meteoric rise has been presented in a whole new avatar, here, wherein the spicy and buttery bhaji has been stuffed in a white bun, baked to perfection and topped with desi style garnishes.
A hot dog is a compelling food as it is. When they add to it the mouth-watering mutton keema from Mahim Khau Galli and Mohammad Ali Road, you know you’re dealing with something way out of your league. This very Desi hot dog with chicken franks, Chilli Con Keema, housemade salsa, diced cucumber and dill sour cream is made to steal hearts.
Bacon lovers, this take on Mac N Cheese is your go-to food on all boring lunch days from now on. The bacon and macaroni in this hot dog has a pool of mozzarella, Parmesan and cheddar to roll around in. And if you feel like such clogging of the arteries needs to be justified, they’ve added a few greens. The crunch and zing they add to it is simply a bonus.
This quirky dish with tandoor cooked shredded chicken in the chef’s special spices, with Butter Chicken fries on the side, is your beer’s new best friend. Once you taste it, it’s going to be your new craving while watching the cricket world cup, while having a night out drinking with your buddies, while almost doing anything fun.
