Sometimes life becomes so hard that when someone asks you ‘How’s life?’ you want to smirk with all the bitterness in the world. I’m guessing that was why people back in the Prohibition era came up with one of the most legendary forms of rebellion – the speakeasy. These were bars or stores providing people with alcohol illegally; and people knew what spirits do to get the tough going, when the going gets tough. People also knew the passwords that took you places – places underground or hidden behind stores and other establishments, places with alcohol, music and people speaking easy so as to not attract attention from anybody. In Mumbai, we had a group come up with places where family and friends could gather, like Terttulia and Grandmama’s Café. And then these people came up with a speakeasy – Please Don’t Tell. This watering hole in Kamala Mills knows how hard the city is on its people and that’s why it gives them something to come back to almost every day of the week – before they go home.
Ladies First: It is but chivalrous to think of the ladies first, so Tuesday nights belong to them. For Ladies Night, they’re offering you ladies an exclusive menu of cocktails at only INR 99 all-inclusive. Wearing those favourite red heels of yours will get you a 15% off on your whole bill. Meanwhile, if you come in a group of 7, you get 7 drinks on the house. Please don’t tell the boys.
Bolly-good: When life gives you lemons, do you begin to sing ‘Nimbooda Nimbooda’ with Aishwarya’s expressions? The Bollywood Mashup on Wednesdays here is for you. Not only does the dance floor let you swing to some really classic numbers, but the cocktail menu lures you away from your intentions of ‘Main tera khoon pee jaunga’ with options like ‘Chadhti Jawani, ‘Namak Ishq Ka’ and ‘My Desi Girl’ instead.
Happy Deal: Think McDonald’s was the only place in the world that could give you a Happy Meal? Think again! Please Don’t Tell gives you happy meals and happy drinks to go with them on Thursdays. No, you don’t get free toys with them! What makes them so happy-ning is the special prices they come at, all night.
Memory Street: That’s right – the memory lane just became so much more street with Hip Hop & Retro Night on Saturdays. So pop, lock, jive and rock your Saturday nights away to the songs you remember with more ease than the syllabus for your college major.
Meanwhile, the Secret Hours at Please Don’t Tell every day let you enjoy great prices on signature specials and twisted cocktails all through the week. So while they take Mondays off (hey, what kind of speakeasy would it be if it was open on the most obvious day that people could catch you with drinks?), Tuesdays to Sundays, this speakeasy totally makes your week easy.
