If, like me, you’ve been scouting for ideal places to enjoy the best of this season but without leaving the city, then here’s a spot that you’ll only be too happy to discover. Lake View Café at the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel in Powai is within the city but away enough to qualify as a quick day’s getaway and boasts unobstructed views of Powai Lake and the green patches around it.
Sunday mornings are the best time to head to this part of town—considering that’s the only time of the week when the city streets are devoid of any traffic issues—and enjoy the café’s large Sunday brunch spread. What I love about the brunch here is that it’s not a heavy one, there’s something about the food. It satiates but leaves you feeling light. So, even if you fill up on dim sums, spinach and onion bhajias, the 10 kinds of salads available, cold cuts, donuts, dosas and pasta, you’re not likely to be wishing for a nap after. Even the biryani and Thai red curry rice is deliciously light and not masala-laden.
After a late night of drinking with friends on Saturday, this is the nicest way to ease into Sunday and sober up before Monday blues kick in.
Pro tip: Get an early reservation and request to be seated by the double-ceilinged glass façade, which offers a clear view of the lake (and in it, some crazy young boys who dismiss the very real existence of crocodiles in the lake).
