Sandwiches are a no-nonsense lunch or dinner option for me, just stack two slices of bread together, add whatever veggies are on hand, and your tummy will be thankful. Of course, I’ve tried a few fancy variations like versions of grilled cheese or club sandwiches – unfortunately, the best thing I can say about my culinary experiments is that I ate them so at least, nothing was wasted! If you love sandwiches and want to try some new flavour combinations in Mumbai, make a beeline for these hotspots:
Smoked Tomato and Brie @ Smoke House Deli
Smoke House Deli is renowned for its Italian and European cuisine and is one of the best burger joints in the city. The creaminess of the brie, the bitter taste of the arugula, and the flavourful smoked tomatoes work well together in this restaurant’s Smoked Tomato and Brie sandwich.
The Morning After @ Between Breads, Bandra West
Another burger joint in Mumbai that you must try is Between Breads that serves American and fast food options. The Morning After sandwich at this restaurant is your perfect brunch option and comes loaded with ham, tomatoes, egg, and bacon. The best thing about this sandwich, apart from the meat, is that it is served with French fries on the side!
Char Siu Bao @ The Fatty Bao, Bandra West
Serving Pan-Asian delicacies, The Fatty Bao offers you a spectacular ambience and quirky Asian food. When you order Char Siu Bao, you will be served two pieces of open bread that are stuffed with BBQ pork belly, scallions, hoisin sauce, and green apple kimchi. Wash this sandwich down with Mandalay Bay, a Jasmine tea infused cocktail.
Chocolate Sandwich @ Gupta Chat Centre, Matunga East
Gupta Chat Centre is a street food eatery, and they serve some amazing Mumbai chat and sandwiches. The Chocolate sandwich here is made by adding heaps of shaved chocolate between two buttered bread slices, and then generously topped with chocolate syrup – a dessert sandwich!
Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella Panini @ Zen Café, Lower Parel
Sometimes it’s the simple things that taste the best, and the same is true with this mozzarella Panini. Tomato slices, basil, and loads of mozzarella cheese is stuffed in focaccia bread fresh out of the oven. It is the subtle flavours of this sandwich that make it so heart-warming and tasty.
