I just got to hold a baby minutes before I wrote this article. Every once in a while, I still stop to smell my hands because that peculiar baby smell lingered on it – that beautiful inimitable fragrance. There’s something very special about children and you cannot define it, just like you cannot define love. They’re life at its best and most beautiful. So yes, when I’m told that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of our country, loved children so much that his birthday was dedicated to celebrating them, I completely get where he was coming from. Children’s day is right around the corner and while you can’t help falling in love with them all year round, it’s time you reminded them why. Try these few things in the city, this weekend with your kids or nieces and nephews or kids you’re not even related to. The joy will be unforgettable!
Sweet Treat @ Grandmama’s Café
Nothing makes children happy like taking them to visit a grandparent, especially one that spoils them and makes them all sorts of wonderful things to eat. Well, this Italian Grandmama in Mumbai is no different. Grandmama’s café is actually one of my niece’s favourite places and pardon me for being clichéd but few things compare to the experience of simply sitting back and watching her polish off two chocolate chip pancakes, her face smeared with chocolate by the time she’s done with them. Well, I’m definitely going to take her to eat some of the deliciously moist Cakepops they’re giving away to children on Monday. See you all there.
Junior Pizza Chef @ 1441 Pizzeria
Love your kids a lot but too lazy to deal with the sugar rush on a Monday? You could always avoid the Italian Grandmama and go for something else Italian. How about visiting one of the outlets of 1441 Pizzeria, enjoying one of their classic pizzas and watching while your kids are making memories of that fun day when they made pizza all by themselves for the very first time? That’s right, the children get to make their own Margherita pizza and eat it too. Who knows? Your kid might discover his/her hidden passion and you his/her talent for cooking!
Cartoon Network Brunch @ Courtyard by Marriott
Generation gap makes it nearly impossible for you to connect to your children in a lot of ways until you remember what it was like when you were a kid. If that’s too hard to remember, you always have the one thing that connects you two instantly – no, not love! Cartoon Network, duh! You can begin by celebrating at this brunch organized around it, where these chefs have gone through hours, days and months planning the perfect menu of all the favourite foods of various cartoon characters. If you think food is all there is to it, you’re in for a surprise. Guests can choose from various experiences like getting themselves painted by professional tattoo artists, participating in the treasure hunt or indulging themselves in the DIY cooking workshop. This brunch goes on every Sunday till the 27th of November, so you can also go back yourself later to get a chance to return to your own childhood and have your own little celebration of Children’s Day. I know you secretly miss celebrating it. I do too!
Well, the world is always different through a child’s eyes and I don’t know about you but it never fails to cheer me up being able to see it that way. Maybe after you’ve had a memorable time with your kids at one of these places, you can take them to spend some time with kids who aren’t as privileged as them and help them celebrate and make memories too. This weekend, celebrate the magic that is children!
