What Sets Orzuv – Essence Of Kashmir Apart?
As I walk into this genial environment one fine afternoon, only to be greeted by Bella the furball (the cutest hostess yet- a playful Labrador!), an unperturbed calm takes over me. Looking around, there’s an unassuming structure, that stands in the middle of what one would imagine to be a bustling cafe in a holiday getaway spot. Only, it’s a bungalow, dwelling in the heart of Whitefield that’s been revamped in an authentic and organic fashion.
I find my way into this enchanting boutique that lies at the entrance. It exhibits a collection of stunning attire, cut from the kind of cloth that pushes all the right buttons between chic and homespun. Just then, I run into our humble host for the evening, Shaheem, who tells me Saba Bhat, also the owner of the restaurant has designed these clothes with a friend of hers Shushma Sharma. At once, he invites me to look around and feel at home.
My keen observational skills get me contemplating that to simply classify this place as just an eatery is inadequate for various reasons. First and foremost, not only is the vibe synonymous to the paradise status that Kashmir has attained over time but it seems to have inherited the celebrated, idyllic aspects of Kashmir, and indisputably lives up to its native origins. The feels of the paradise city, combined with a touch of contemporary, is what forms the soul of Orzuv.
The heart of this heaven is of course, the nature-friendliness that runs deep in its roots, right from the rustic features of its ambiance to the fact that you can bring along your pets and laze away for hours. And what else but food to form the wholesome body of this blessed hub; the very essence of the restaurant.
Kahwa And The Kashmiri Delights
Nothing like a hot cuppa Kahwa to kick off and end your meal on a high note! The Kahwa exhibits hints of saffron and spices that make for the perfect brew to enhance your eating experience. Do not miss out on getting a couple of this infusion.
The menu follows in the footsteps of a traditional Wazwan (a multi-course feast in the Kashmiri culture) and is a refreshing spin on the conventional recipes. This newfangled twist is a personalised tinge that puts the Kashmiri cuisine in a modish setting. For the starters, the Tabakh Maaz which is fried lamb ribs are a spectacular way to begin a delicious meal. Try the Goshtaba, Mutton Rogan Josh or the Palak with an assorted selection of breads like Lavasa and Girda, in case you find yourself getting lost in the world of Kashmiri gastronomic jargon.
You can toggle amid bites of your food and getting glimpses of green in between. Or just grab a book from the mini library that is on the first floor of this building, situated in the restaurant.
You’ll find that there are intriguing elements that make up this vibrant space, that extend way beyond the fare. The reflections of these constituents in every facet of the restaurant is exactly what makes Orzuv stand out.
